THE DRAGON :
Komodo dragon is the largest lizard in the world. Komodo Island is the only place in the world where the dragon still exist. There are only about 154 dragons left in the national park. They prey on deer, wild boar, wild buffalo and horse. Sometimes Komodo just bite their prey that would eventually die from getting infected by many deadly bacteria in Komodo saliva. Breeding season occurs between July - August. The female can lay up to 30 eggs, which will hatch about 8 months later. The juveniles live on trees and feed on small animals.

This Komodo monitor genus lived its own considerable, evolutionary history and, in the prehistoric past (it's said about 140.000.000 years!), the creature probably lived throughout the entire region from Australia, Timor, Sumba, Flores and other Indonesian islands. Only when later water did separate all of the different islands, then the areas isolation and strong ocean currents assured the legendary monitor's survival. It's true the Varanus komodoensis has the smallest permanent habitat range of any of the world's large carnivores, being confined to Pulau Komodo, Pulau Padar, and Pulau Rinca. But be aware they also inhabit the Westerly tip of the island of Flores ...

Komodo dragons sleep at night and hunt during the day. Some smaller ones may spend their nights in a den. During the day, they follow a weel-known route looking for food. Adult dragons will eat young dragons (included their own kids) if given the chance. Some dragons swim to nearby islands to go for a hunt ... And why mentioning a Goddess? See >>>
